The convenience and comforts which we enjoy in our modern American society began centuries ago during the Industrial Revolution. Slowly but steadily over the decades, agricultural and manufacturing processes went from hand production methods to machines, more efficient iron and steel production methods were developed and new chemical manufacturing processes were discovered. Advances in machine tools, steam, electrical and diesel power became the foundation for a highly mechanized industrial framework that continues to evolve today.
Progress has its benefits and detriments. Detriment is found in the waste products and pollution generated by several industries. Power plants, oil and gas production, mining, chemical factories and others produce vast amounts of tainted waste. Waste can include heavy metals, pesticides, and a range of dangerous chemicals and radioactive materials. Generated in the form of liquids, gases and solids, much of the waste product is not disposed of safely. Too often the waste is left untreated at work sites, dumped in remote locations or into rivers and water sources. Contaminated air, soil and water systems have the potential of harming entire communities.
Companies continue to manage contaminated waste carelessly and negligently. Without proper safeguards to dispose of these materials safely, lives and livelihoods are placed in jeopardy. Cancer, disabilities, birth defects and other harms caused by industrial waste contamination have been found nationwide.
More about contaminated waste and the harmful materials within various waste products are explained further in the free articles on this website.
